KUMUNU 2018

KUMUNU (which is named for its original participating institutions: the University of Kansas, University of Missouri-Columbia, and University of Nebraska-Lincoln) has been an annual conference for commutative algebraists in the Great Plains region since 1999. It has evolved into a conference involving not only commutative algebra but many different fields where commutative algebra has found applications and inspirations.
This year KUMUNU 2018 will be held at the University of Kansas, in Snow Hall 120, on October 13-14, 2018. The conference will also include a poster session for postdocs and graduate students.
The conference will provide lodging for as many participants as possible and possibly travel reimbursements for a small number of young people. In accordance with NSF guidelines, funds will be prioritized to support participants who have no other federal support and participants who are students, post-doctoral scholars, or members of groups that are under-represented in the mathematical sciences.
The website for KUMUNU 2018 can be found here: http://kumunu2018algebra.ku.edu/

TENSORS Torino

The workshop TENSORS will be held at the Politecnico di Torino from September the 10th to September the 14th 2018.
Tensors have an ubiquitous and crucial role in science. Recently, tensors have become an extremely fervent area of interaction between different scientific fields where mathematics meets with applications in new and unexpected ways. This workshop will explore how tensors can build bridges among algebraic, geometrical, computational, and numerical aspects of mathematics.
For more details and info see the workshop web page.
Participation to this event is encouraged especially among young researchers.
There is limited financial support available to early career researchers. If you are interested in financial support please send an email to enrico.carlini@polito.it before June the 15th.
To be considered for a contributed talk please send an email to enrico.carlini@polito.it before June the 30th.
There is no subscription fee, but we kindly ask anyone interested in attending to register by sending an email to enrico.carlini@polito.it before July the 15th.

Hyperplane arrangements and computations with CoCoA, Hokkaido University, Japan

From the organizers:
Dear all,
We are happy to announce the summer course “Hyperplane arrangements and computations with CoCoA” 13-17th August, 2018 (Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan). More information can be found on the following websites:

This summer course is part of the “Hokkaido Summer Institute 2018” program:

Lecturers:

  • John Abbott (University of Genova)
  • Anna Maria Bigatti (University of Genova)
  • Elisa Palezzato (Hokkaido University)
  • Michele Torielli (Hokkaido University)
  • Masahiko Yoshinaga (Hokkaido University)

This course, via traditional and computer sessions, will introduce the
basic theory of hyperplane arrangements and it will teach how to compute
some of their invariants using the computer algebra system CoCoA.
The course is aimed at Master and PhD students in mathematics, and
gives 2 credits (some exercises will be assigned during the course).
The registration for students outside Hokkaido closes at the end of
February. The tuition fee is 29 600 JPY, but is free for partner
Universities. Accommodation for registered students is available on
campus at very cheap rates. See our web page for details.
This registration process is only for Master and PhD students, but we
also welcome any other type of participants.
Please contact Michele Torielli if you wish to attend.
Unfortunately we cannot offer any financial support, except for
Italian participants members of “GNSAGA – Gruppo Nazionale per le Strutture
Algebriche, Geometriche e le loro Applicazioni”.
