There will be a conference in honor of Paul Roberts’ 60th birthday, May 18-19, 2006. The conference will be held at the Snowbird Resort and Conference Center, near Salt Lake City. It will consist of talks centered around the contributions and influence of Paul Roberts by the following researchers.

There will be three conferences connected to commutative algebra in May 2006 at the CIRM in Luminy, France.

At the AMS Spring Eastern Sectional Meeting in San Francisco, CA, April 29-30 2006, there will be three Special Sessions of interest to commutative algebraists:

• Bernd Sturmfels (University of California Berkeley) and Alexander Yong (University of Minnesota and Fields Institute) will organize a Special Session on Geometry of Gröbner Bases.
• Benjamin Richert (California Polytechnic State University) and Sean Sather-Wagstaff (California State University, Dominguez Hills) will organize a Special Session on Hilbert Functions and Resolutions. See the organizer’s page for this session.
• Joseph Gubeladze (San Francisco State University) and Serkan Hosten (San Francisco State University) will organize a Special Session on Homological and K-theoretical Trends in Algebraic Combinatorics.

The Joint Mathematics Meetings of the AMS, MAA, and other mathematical organizations (ASL, AWM, MER, NAM, PME, RMMCand SIAM) will be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, January 12-15, 2006. There will be several events and sessions of interest to commutative algebraists.

• David Eisenbud will give the AMS Retiring Presidential Address.
• I. Peeva, S. Popescu, and G. Smith are organizing the Special Session on Syzygies in Commutative Algebra and Geometry.
• M. Neusel and D. Wehlau are organizing the Special Session on Invariant Theory.
• S. Chapman and J. Coykendall are organizing the Special Session on Commutative Rings and Monoids.

In addition, Scott Chapman and Jim Coykendall have organized an afternoon of 45-minute talks entitled “Current Trends in Commutative Rings and Moniods”. This satellite session will be held on January 11 at Trinity University. Information on this session, including information on how to reach Trinity’s campus from the downtown hotel area, can be found on the session website.

The 2005 Fall Central Section meeting of the AMS, in Lincoln, Nebraska, October 21-23, will have several Special Sessions of interest to commutative algebraists.

• Brian Harbourne (Nebraska) and Bangere Purnaprajna (Kansas) will organize a Special Session on Algebraic Geometry.
• Lars Christensen (Nebraska), Srikanth Iyengar (Nebraska), and Sean Sather-Wagstaff (Nebraska) will organize a Special Session on Commutative Algebra. See the organizers’ webpage for the session.
• Christian Haesemeyer (Illinois), Greg Piepmeyer (Nebraska), and Mark Walker (Nebraska) will organize a Special Session on K-theory and Algebraic Cycles.
• Roger Wiegand (Nebraska) and Sylvia Wiegand (Nebraska) will organize a Special Session on Representation Theory of Noetherian Rings. See the session website for more information.

Note that the Friday afternoon talks in the second and fourth sessions will be held jointly.

This year’s Route 81 Conference will be held at Queen’s University on the weekend of October 15-16, 2005. David Cox has been invited to give a special lecture entitled “Secant Varieties of Toric Varieties”.
The organizers have obtained funding from the Dean of Arts and Sciences to help graduate students with expenses.
